Artscape announced that Robert J. Foster will succeed Kathleen Sharpe as Chair of its Board of Directors, effective June 2011. Foster joined the Artscape Board of Directors in 2009 and also serves as Co-Chair of the Artscape Foundation’s Campaign Cabinet.
“I am pleased to be involved with Artscape at a time when it is experiencing tremendous growth,” said Mr. Foster. “Toronto is ranked as one of the most liveable cities in the world. Artscape is an important ingredient in the continuing success of our city’s creative thrust.”
Robert Foster, B.A., M.A., C.F.A., is the founder, president and CEO of Capital Canada Limited, an independent investment banking firm providing financial services to entrepreneurs and corporations. In addition to his volunteer position at Artscape, Foster currently serves on the board of Intertape Polymer Group Incorporated, Hunter Amenities International, The Harbourfront Foundation, Business for the Arts; and is Co-Chair of the City of Toronto’s Creative Capital Initiative.

During her tenure with Artscape, Sharpe oversaw the completion of Artscape Distillery Studios, Artscape Triangle Lofts, and the award-winning Artscape Wychwood Barns, as well as three highly successful Creative Places + Spaces conferences.
“Artscape has become an important player in the world of creative city-building and I am proud to have been part of that work over the past nine years. I know Robert Foster will grab the reins with gusto and passion and I envy him being able to work with a team of the best cultural managers I know!” said Sharpe.
Also retiring from the Artscape Board of Directors this year are Michael Kainer, Ana Serrano and Bill Squires. New to the Board are Alistair Mitchell, who also serves on the Artscape Foundation Board of Directors, and Paul Morassutti.
