Consulting Engineers of Ontario (CEO), a non-profit association representing approximately 200 engineering firms, released a statement immediately following the results of the Provincial election, wherein the Liberal Government under the leadership of Kathleen Wynne took 59 of 107 seats in the Provincial Legislature with 38.7 per cent of the popular vote. “Having a majority government at Queen’s Park with a clear mandate will make a huge difference for getting Ontario back on track,” said Consulting Engineers of Ontario CEO, Barry Steinberg. “A major factor contributing to the frustration perpetuating our horrific infrastructure deficit has been having a minority government in the legislature,” he said.
“Ontario and Ontarians needed this mandate, regardless of party, so that we could settle-in to tackle the core infrastructure dilemma ravaging this province,” said Steinberg. “Proper solutions will only develop as a result of clear, comprehensive and innovative planning,” he said. “The electorate and our MPPs are of one mind on this issue. Any spending must contribute to our economic recovery and it must put the right long-term plan in place to ensure we get maximum effect for our efforts. We have to be smart about our spending, maximizing every dollar, as our debt remains a very real concern.”
Said Steinberg, “Our members are ready to get down to work with the legislature; to get Ontario back on its feet and on its way to being the progressive, dynamic and leading-edge province we know it can be. We have a lot of work to do to make up for lost time.”
