New architecture firm launched

John van Nostrand has launched a new architecture practice, named regionalArchitects (rA).  rA builds on over 30 years of van Nostrand’s experience in Canada and around the world, and will remain focused on a creative and responsive  approach to the design of  housing, community institutions, and public space.  rA works with both private- and public-sector clients and its current projects include the new YWCA Residence in downtown Toronto, which is designed to LEED Silver standards, mineworker housing in West Africa, and a mixed-use high-rise building in Toronto’s Annex neighbourhood.

planningAlliance (pA) and rePlan (rP) welcome the addition of rA to their corporate family.  Both firms continue to thrive under partners John van Nostrand, Mike Steyn and Graeme Burt.  pA provides urban planning, design and development advice to government and non-governmental organizations in Canada and around the World.  In 2007, pA was awarded a World Leadership Award for The Amman Master Plan.  rP provides social impact assessment, resettlement, housing and  social management advice to resource extraction companies, including many of the largest mining and oil and gas firms around the World.

Together, the three firms comprise over 75 full-time professional staff, including architects, urban designers, planners, social scientists, community development specialists, and engineers.  The firms have ongoing projects across Canada and in more than 15 countries around the globe, and offices located in Toronto, Fort McMurray, Amman (Jordan), and Accra (Ghana).
