Metro Vancouver industrial hub development continues with new tenant

Another high-profile business is moving to one of Metro Vancouver’s fastest growing industrial areas. A joint-venture partnership between Beedie Development Group (BDG) and Surrey City Development Corporation (SCDC) will welcome Weir Canada Inc. in 2016 to Campbell Heights North, a 250-acre business park in southeast Surrey developed by SCDC. Notable tenants already include Loblaw Companies Ltd., OK Tire, and Advanced Wire Products.

The partnership will see SCDC and BDG develop an 114,000-sq.-ft. custom-built facility for R. Wales Canada, a business unit of Weir Canada that provides engineering services and manufactures processing equipment for the resource sector worldwide. This is the first time BDG, Western Canada’s largest private industrial landlord, is building on industrial land owned by SCDC.

R. Wales Canada is currently located in a 37,000-sq.-ft. facility in Richmond, BC, with an additional 23,000 square feet of outdoor work space. The Campbell Heights North facility will be on 5.83 acres of land and will include an additional 30,000 square feet for future expansion. The company will create 30 new jobs, bringing the total number of employees in BC to 110. Weir Canada’s 20-year commitment in Campbell Heights North helps fulfil SCDC’s mandate to stimulate economic development in Surrey and attract high-paying, skilled jobs to the city.

“Weir’s selection of Campbell Heights North is a clear testament to the many benefits of this location in terms of access to a strong employee base and transportation networks,” said Doug Avis, SCDC VP Development & Investment. “With Beedie’s expertise in industrial development and construction, we’re able to offer Weir Canada a facility that will provide a solid foundation for growth well into the future.”
