Contract awarded for Kingston General Hospital redevelopment project

It was recently announced that PCL Constructors Canada Inc. has been awarded the contract to build and finance Kingston General Hospital’s redevelopment project. The contract, which was given by Infrastructure Ontario and Kingston General Hospital, commits PCL to construct and finance the $142.1 million project.

The hospital will pay PCL Constructors this amount in 2012 when the project is expected to reach substantial completion. The peak of construction will witness more than 75 workers onsite daily.

The 170,000 square feet of construction and renovations on the 143,000 square foot facility will include more beds, inpatient paediatrics, expanded and upgraded services, a new cancer centre, two new radiation bunkers and more.

The provincial government has already agreed to fund 90 per cent of the project’s construction costs, all eligible planning costs, and some specialized radiation equipment.
