YWCA of Calgary seeks partner for downtown development opportunity

The YWCA of Calgary this morning issued a request for an Expression of Interest (EOI) seeking submissions from property developers to partner in the planning and development of a new YWCA facility in Calgary’s city centre.

The YWCA is seeking potential land development partners to bring forward creative ideas to best leverage the YWCA’s property, the full city block where the current downtown facility stands – 320 5th Avenue S.E.

The YWCA is looking for creative ideas for an exciting new development that can meet the organization’s needs; to ensure the safety, accessibility and dignity of women and families requiring YWCA support;to maximize the future financial sustainability of the YWCA; and to enhance the downtown area.

“The YWCA is open to any number of possibilities,” said Sue Tomney, CEO, YWCA of Calgary. “We are excited for this new chapter in the YWCA of Calgary’s history as we adapt to meet the needs of women, and we look forward to contributing to the evolution of Calgary’s downtown.”

The land, which measures 140,000 square feet, is at the gateway to downtown Calgary between the 4th and 5th Avenue fly overs. New development on the site would feature prominently in the city’s skyline.

Information, including all documentation pertaining to the EOI, is available through the YWCA’s website at

The deadline for submissions to the EOI is May 7, 2014.
