For the second year in a row and the third time in four years, The Minto Group has been awarded the GREEN Builder of the Year award by the Ontario Home Builders’ Association, announced during the OHBA President’s Gala Awards of Distinction in Toronto.
The award is presented to a company that continuously exhibits environmentally-friendly building designs and techniques, leading-edge waste management strategies, an exemplary internal green culture and support of the sustainable building industry.
“With many innovative firsts, The Minto Group clearly demonstrated that it significantly lowers the environmental impact of its land development, construction and building operations,” stated the OHBA. “As well, the company has achieved valuable green cultural changes with their customers and residents through social media and Green committees while employees are engaged through Minto’s Green Champion program and its internal Green website.” Minto has consistently achieved 25 per cent or more energy savings in its low-rise communities, 30 per cent or more energy savings in its high rise condominiums, and has eliminated 17,947 tons of greenhouse gas annually. Minto-inspired innovations such as “all-off” switches, HRV-Fancoil, rainwater harvesting, multi-chute recycling, and the pursuit of zero-energy housing construction, are designed to lower the company’s and its customers’ environmental footprint.
Among many other projects, Minto’s recent leading-edge developments like Ampersand at Chapman Mills in Ottawa and MintoMidtown in Toronto include outstanding innovative features that have contributed an overall $4.9 million in energy and water savings over the past year.
As well as a comprehensive green platform on Minto’s external website, the Minto Sustainability Division now educates customers with the publication of green living tips and building updates on social media sites. Internally, Minto hosts a number of green employee engagement initiatives – such as green committees, an annual Environmental Footprint report and a green company intranet.
