The Calgary apartment building Lakeview Mews at 2524 - 66th Avenue SW, recently re-opened as the first-ever 100 per cent non-smoking rental property in the area. It is also the first 100 per cent non-smoking rental building for its asset management company, Bentall LP.

“As the trend against smoking strengthens, more and more individuals are requesting non-smoking properties to call home,” said Scott Bigford, senior vice president, operations, Realstar Management. “So it was important for us to be able to satisfy this request.”

Environmentally friendly cleaning products, energy efficient lighting as well as recycled paint and carpeting were used in an overhaul that included new elevators, wiring, plumbing, and refreshed corridors and lobby. “During the renovation process, we decided to convert the property to a smoke-free home to benefit both the health of our new residents, as well as the environment,” continued Bigford.
